Securing All-Optical Networks
نویسنده
چکیده
All-optical networks (AONs) are a relatively new technology for high data-rate communications. They contain only optical components and are intrinsically different from optical networks currently being used. More specifically, AONs provide transparent features that allow routing and data switching without necessitating the interpretation or regression of signals within the network. Consequently, AON components and architectures bring forth a set of new challenges in network security. This paper presents an overview of security issues in AONs and proposes the design criteria for network management in AONs. In addition, there is a discussion concerning the implementation of such a system within the authors' research group.

A Novel Protection Guaranteed, Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithm for All-optical Networks
Transparent All Optical Networks carry huge traffic and any link failure can cause the loss of gigabits of data; hence protection and its guarantee becomes necessary at the time of failure. Many protection schemes were presented in the literature, but none of them speaks about protection guarantee. Also, in all optical networks, due to absence of regeneration capabilities, the physical layer i...

Cluster-based Wireless Sensor Network (CWSN) is a kind of WSNs that because of avoiding long distance communications, preserve the energy of nodes and so is attractive for related applications. The criticality of most applications of WSNs and also their unattended nature, makes sensor nodes often susceptible to many types of attacks. Based on this fact, it is clear that cluster heads (CHs) are ...

Mobile ad hoc networks are networks composed of wireless devices to create a network with the ability for self-organization. These networks are designed as a new generation of computer networks to satisfy some specific requirements and with features different from wired networks. These networks have no fixed communication infrastructure and for communication with other nodes the intermediate no...
متن کاملSecuring Passive Optical Networks Against Signal Injection Attacks
Passive optical access networks are susceptible to intended attacks and unintended failures. This paper discusses intrusion by user-side signalinjection resulting in reduced network accessibility and it proposes possible countermeasures. The central function is that an intruding signal can be switched off when it is present.
متن کاملSecuring Fiber Optic Communications against Optical Tapping Methods
Optical tapping devices placed in public and private optical networks today allow unfettered access to all communications and information transiting any fiber segment. Available legally and inexpensively from numerous manufacturers worldwide, optical taps are standard network maintenance equipment that are in use daily. When used nefariously, optical taps provide an excellent method of intercep...
